Use cases › Tailor your resume to one job using only experience you really have

AI use case
Match your resume to a job posting without making anything up
Sending the same resume everywhere means the skills an employer asked for are often buried or worded differently, but letting AI rewrite it freely can add things that aren't true.
How to do it
- Paste the job posting and your current resume into ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot or Gemini.
- Ask it to find five qualifications in the posting that your resume already supports and to suggest where you could make those connections clearer. Tell it not to add any skills, results or numbers you didn't give it.
- Ask it to point out vague or repeated wording, and to suggest volunteer work or other experience you may have left out that fits the job.
- Go through every suggestion and keep only what is accurate and sounds like you.
- CU Boulder Career Services shares this prompt and warns never to let AI add responsibilities or accomplishments that aren't true.
