Use cases › Identifying birds by their songs

AI use case
Find out which bird is singing in your backyard
You hear a bird every morning but can't see it, and flipping through a field guide to match a song is close to impossible.
How to do it
- Install the free Merlin Bird ID app from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
- Step outside, open Sound ID and hold your phone up while the birds are singing.
- Watch the names that light up in real time as each bird sings.
- Tap a suggestion and compare your recording with the songs and calls stored in Merlin to confirm what you heard. It makes a nice backyard activity with kids or a class.
- The Cornell Lab says Merlin Sound ID listens to the birds around you, shows real-time suggestions and covers more than 2,000 species, including the US and Canada.
