Five days with Grok Bot as a digital chief of staff

Dan McAteer's essay for Latent Space compares Grok Bot to a new MacBook and OpenClaw to Linux: much less setup, a bit less control. He set up a daily news brief based on his X interests, a support bot that checks a help desk site every 15 minutes through the bot's browser, and one view of his work and personal calendars. His verdict: great for admin, research and task tracking, but not for writing most of your code.

How to set it up

  1. Connect a tool from the plugin catalog by signing in, then ask for a daily brief on topics you care about.
  2. For a site with no plugin, sign in once in the bot's browser and set a routine to check it on a schedule.
  3. Connect more than one account of the same service, like work and personal calendars, to see your whole day in one place.
  4. Give each bot a clear role, but remember all your bots share one computer and its logins.
