How to keep your Grok Bot usage and costs under control
Grok Bot runs on a weekly usage allowance that comes with your plan. Most surprises come from a few busy routines or one very big task. Here is how to see what you're using, slow down the biggest spenders and put a hard cap on extra charges, based on the official help pages.
How do I keep usage under control?
- Check your usage in Grok Bot under Settings > Usage & Billing. Grok Bot usage is separate from any limit you see in the Grok chat app.
- Look at your routines first. Each run spends usage, so an hourly schedule or a Slack trigger on a busy channel adds up fast.
- Pause routines you don't need, and ask the Bot to widen schedules (for example daily instead of hourly) and narrow Slack triggers to one channel or phrase.
- Break very large jobs into smaller steps and check the result of each before asking for more.
- Set a spending cap. On The X Subscription, leave Auto Top-up off or set a monthly additional usage limit at grok.com/dashboard/billing. On a legacy Cursor plan, set Settings > Usage & Billing > On-demand monthly limit.
- Only then consider a bigger plan, if you still run out regularly.
Questions
My Bot says I hit my usage limit. Is it broken?
No. Your weekly usage is used up, and it resets each week. To keep going now you can add prepaid credit (The X Subscription), turn on on-demand usage (legacy Cursor plans), or move to a bigger plan.
Which plans include Grok Bot?
On The X Subscription, Premium, Super and Ultra include it; Plus and Free don't. Legacy paid Cursor plans include it too. On a legacy Cursor account you can also link an individual SuperGrok, SuperGrok Plus, SuperGrok Heavy or X Premium+ subscription.
Do a Cursor plan and a SuperGrok link add together?
No. Grok Bot uses whichever one grants more weekly usage.
Does a spending cap stop a task halfway?
No. The cap doesn't stop a Bot in the middle of a run, so a running task can go a little past it.
Does testing a routine cost usage?
Yes. Test does the real work, so it spends usage. A routine that never runs doesn't.
Do I need to pay again to use Grok Bot on my phone?
No. Sign in on mobile with the same account and your access carries over. Don't buy a second subscription through Apple or Google Play if your account already includes Grok Bot.
My free trial ran out in one task. Can I get it back?
No. The trial is a usage credit, and one large task can use all of it. Start with a small task to see how much a job uses.
