How to connect Gmail, Calendar, Slack and other apps to Grok Bot
Plugins let your Bots use services you already have, like Gmail, Google Calendar, Drive, Slack and Notion. A plugin works through the account you sign in with, so it can only do what that account can already do. Here is how to connect one and what to expect, based on the official help pages.
How do I connect an app?
- On desktop, choose Connect apps in the sidebar. On the phone, tap your avatar at the top left and choose Connect apps. You can also follow a Connect card that a Bot shows in chat.
- Browse or search for the app and add it.
- When Grok Bot asks you to Authorize or Authenticate, finish the sign-in in your browser.
- Check that the app now appears under Installed.
- Ask a Bot to use it, for example "What's on my calendar tomorrow?" or "Find the invoice from last month in my Gmail."
Questions
What can the Google Calendar plugin do?
Read calendars you can see, create and update events, check free time, and respond to invitations on calendars you can edit. It can't change Google Meet settings or add a Zoom link, so put a Zoom link in the event location or description yourself.
What can the Gmail plugin do?
Search and read mail, draft and send, and apply labels in the connected mailbox. A Bot still shows you a draft for approval before it sends.
Can I connect a work and a personal Gmail at the same time?
No. Gmail connects one mailbox at a time. To switch, disconnect the current one and authorize the other. Some other plugins, like Notion, can connect a second account.
Does Slack post as a bot or as me?
As you. The Slack plugin posts as the Slack user you connected, only in channels that user can post in. This is separate from a Slack trigger that starts a routine.
Can a plugin see or change more than I can?
No. A plugin can only do what your account can already do in that service. It can't raise your access or change who a file is shared with. For example, a Google Sheet shared with you as Viewer stays view-only.
Which of my Bots can use a plugin?
Every Bot on your account. If one Bot shouldn't use a mailbox, disconnect that plugin. A teammate's Team Bot asks before it uses your accounts.
The plugin is added but the Bot says it's missing. What now?
Added means installed, not signed in. Open the plugin and choose Authenticate (Authorize on the phone) if it shows Needs auth or Disconnected. If sign-in doesn't finish, choose Reconnect.
Google says an admin needs to review Grok. What does that mean?
Your company's Google Workspace hasn't approved the app yet. Request access if the page offers it, then ask your IT admin to mark the app named Grok as Trusted in the Google Admin console under Security, Access and data control, API controls. A personal Gmail account doesn't need this.
